Happy Friday! It’s time to kickoff the holiday weekend. Here in the Chicagoland area we are supposed to get some warm, sunny weather (which will be an unbelievable treat after the week of rain we’ve had). And what better time to try out a new fruity, summery cocktail but when the weather starts to warm? Enter the Blueberry Gin Cocktail.
In the spirit of the holiday weekend though, let’s not forget why we are able to gather with friends and family to celebrate. Memorial Day isn’t just a time to kickoff the grilling season and enjoy a day off of work. It’s really a time to remember those men and women in the military service who have given their lives to provide us with the freedom to enjoy those things. That being said, make you sure you take a moment this weekend to think of those in our military services, as well as the families of those who have lost their lives. And of course – have a safe and fun weekend! Cheers!
Blueberry Gin Cocktail, courtesy of Hendrick’s Gin
makes one cocktail
12 blueberries (defrosted if using frozen berries)
4 tablespoons good quality gin
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 tablespoons gingerale
Ice cubes
1-2 mint sprigs & blueberries to garnish
Place the blueberries, gin and lemon juice in a measuring cup or shallow bowl. Muddle everything together (you could even give it a quick run through the blender or food processor, as I found the blueberries a bit difficult to muddle).
Fill a chilled glass with ice cubes. Strain the blueberry-gin mixture over the ice.
Pour over the gingerale, stir, and garnish with mint leaves and blueberries.
